Genesis 3:4,5 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Devil uses Deception as the No.1 Weapon to make us fall a prey for cheap things. The tempter deceptive words to eve are, paraphrasing, “God is stopping them from enjoying a most desirable fruit of all (tree of knowledge)” which created self-pity in her. He charmed her to desire for the forbidden and also induced pride to covet the knowledge to be like God (“you will be like God” Genesis 3:5).
The enemy of our soul uses this weapon to trap us in sin isn’t it? The age old tactic still works for him but we are so blinded that we often fall for. Forbidden things are always attractive because it gives a momentary pleasure but we shouldn’t forget that it also comes with long-lasting misery. Sin gives short term pleasure as well as it leads us to eternal damnation. Yet the truth is God is not preventing us from enjoying but indorses us to enjoy everything within Him. As John Piper stated in (Desiring God p. 18), “The chief end of man is to glorify God BY enjoying him forever.”
